About Us
Hello, I'm Michael Higgins! As a former vacation home owner and current full-time resident at Lake Anna I have dealt with the stress of "not knowing". Not knowing if the kids locked the doors and windows when they left from a weekend visit. Not knowing if a tree had fallen during a storm. Not knowing if my dream house had turned into a nightmare because of a leaking pipe or a curious bear.
When my wife and I decided to build our vacation log home at Lake Anna I served as the general contractor. I negotiated my way through the various twists and turns of contractors and inspectors, delays and surprises, and managed to stay married throughout the process. I worked with many talented and professional contractors along the way, and I'd be more than happy to refer and recommend the right service provider for your home's needs.
I'm somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades. I grew up the grandson of a general contractor. I spent many years as everybody's "go-fer" and apprenticed in trades from framing to finish work, roofing to landscaping. I also grew up as the child and grandchild of avid gardeners. Over the years I've designed quite a few gardens for myself and other homeowners. I enjoyed working with the landscape so much that I became a Virginia Master Gardener.
My career path lead me to become a forensic investigator in Boston during the mid-1980's. I was an expert in the field of analyzing automotive theft, and I both investigated the crimes and served as scene photographer. I turned my photography skill into a profession when I moved to Virginia in 1990 and opened my own photography business. I photographed everything from weddings to wildlife, and my images were featured in many local and national publications. The knowledge gained from years of gardening was an added value to the landscape designers who hired me to capture their creations at the peak of beauty.
My drive and attention to detail helped me to excel in all these fields. I will bring that same attention to detail when I perform regular visits to your home. I'm not a licensed contractor, I'm merely a homeowner who has a wide range of experience with owning and maintaining my own homes and assisting friends with theirs. I believe in doing things right the first time, and I try my best to use common sense and be flexible to my clients needs.
I hope you'll let me eliminate some of the "not knowing" associated with absentee home-ownership so you can get on with enjoying your vacation on beautiful Lake Anna!
It all starts with scheduling a visit. Call us at 434-960-6980 to schedule a walk-through of your property!
