Frequently Asked Questions
Are you Bonded?
- No. The Commonwealth of Virginia does not allow for the owner of a business to be bonded, only the employees.
Are you licensed?
- No, I am not. Vacation home caretaking does not have any nationally or locally recognized licensing requirements. As such, I depend upon my professionalism and ethical standards to help gain the trust of potential clients.
I am a registered LLC in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and a registered business in Spotsylvania County. I also pay my fair share of local and state business taxes.
Any home repairs I perform are under $1000 per job, therefore conforming with Virginia requirements.
Can't I just have a trusted neighbor or relative check my vacation home?
- Sure you can! For years one of my neighbors and I would call each other after a storm to see if our vacation homes survived. It worked great as long as one of us was planning to go there, otherwise we had to wait. We never exchanged keys, so any unseen interior damage remained just that. Unseen.
What happens if your trusted neighbor or relative has a key, but forgets to lock the door after they check your house? Are you willing to lose or damage a relationship? It's nice to have someone check your home for free when it's convenient for them, but what happens when it's not convenient or there's a problem?
I provide a scheduled service to walk through and inspect all the items you indicate, and I have the ability to address any issues that may occur. I also have the ability to respond, on your schedule, to your "peace of mind" needs concerning the status of your home.
Can I include other tasks as part of my regular visit?
- Absolutely! Simple tasks are usually included in the basic fee, while more time-consuming tasks garner an additional fee. I'll customize my caretaker service to ensure the time you spend at your vacation home is as enjoyable and work-free as possible.
What business associations are you a member?
- I am a former member of the Louisa Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Anna Business Partnership.
- I previously served on the Board of Directors of the Lake Anna Business Partnership. I Chaired the Marketing and Media Relations committees and the Sunset Concert Series committee.
